3 Beauty Travel Tips That Will Help You Survive All Your Summer Vacays

We finally made it to summer. The days are longer, the sun is shining and Fourth of July is right around the corner. The holiday doesn’t justmean American flag visors and cut-off jean shorts; it also marks one of the busiest travel weekends of the season.

Packing the best road trip snacks and picking out the travel tunes are the easy parts. (I’m lookin’ at you, Pringles and ’90s playlists.) The hardest part for most girls always seems to be packing the beauty essentials because, well, first you have to decide what an “essential” is.

Thankfully, summer is a great time to strip down your beauty routine because that beautiful glow from the sweltering heattends not to mix well with most products. Humidity and hair? Can we just start a petition that frizz is in, and ponytails are king?

But let’s be honest: We’re not just going to throw away all of our products because we’re hitting the road. (I mean, youcould, and more power to you if you can.) But, there is a way to scale back the numberof products you need to achieve aneffortlessly beautiful look wherever you’re headed this summer.

Multitasking Products

One of the best tricks to make sure that your quart-sized baggie is TSA-approved is to look for products that do more than one thing. We want to spend our days exploring the new sights of our summer destination, so any shortcuts we can implement into our morning routine are welcome.

One of the best products out there for protecting and perfecting your face is a BB cream. These products stand for beauty balms or blemish balms, and they are the overachievers of the foundation family. Most of them contain SPF, so you can protect your skin from those damaging UV rays and look 25forever. On top of that, they have a tinted moisturizer in the formula, so you can hydrate your skin and blur any spots or discoloration with one swipe.

Tell your facial SPF, moisturizer and foundation you’re “on a break,” and toss that BB cream in your carry-on, knowing full well you’ll still look flawless as you celebrate the season.

Another product that can pull double duty is a cheek and lip stain. You don’t have to decide between your lip-plumping gloss and your favorite NARS cheek color, you can achieve both looks with one product.

Now if you’re traveling by land, you might be able to get away with tossing your powder compact blush in your cosmetic bag, but we all know that game of cosmetics roulette we play when we finally unpack our powders from a very turbulent flight. Finding your favorite shade in pieces is not the way you want to start off a vacay.

These multitaskingproducts come in stains and balms. If you’re up for a more dewy look, go for the balm. But if classic fits you better, a stain will do just the trick. Find a shade that makes your lips just a shade darker than your natural hue, and aim to give your cheeks ayouthful flush.

Heat-Friendly Products

Temperatures are higher, and there is more moisture in the air. So, high-heat tools are not going to be the first thing you want to style your hair with.

First of all, blowing out your hair takes time and a lot of product. You’re on vacation, so you don’t want to wasteprecious beach hoursworking up a sweat in your hotel bathroom that should be done oceansidewith a drink in hand.

Embrace the natural look. If your hair is usually wavy, spritz some texturizing sea salt spray and enjoy the double takes you’ll undoubtedly get as you pair your beachywaves with a seasonal sundress. If your hair tends to lie flat, twist it back with some bobby pins or rock a sleek ponytail. Pulling your hair up will give you ample opportunity to perfect your tan, anyway.

Heat doesn’t only mess with our hair, though. Raccoon eyes are all too common after a day (or an hour) in the sun. Less is definitely more when the heat are getting too much.

First of all, make sure you pack your tweezers because defined brows are the easiest way to achieve a polished look. After that, just swipe on some waterproof mascara, and ditch the eyeliner. It comes in waterproof varieties as well, but why waste your time when you look just as awesome without it?

OK, maybe you can attempt a winged look for a nice dinner, but beyond that, don’t bother.

Finishing Touches

Lugging a bottle of perfume is not what comes to mind when I think “traveling light.” You probably have some sweet-smelling samples from your last trip to Sephora, so take those, and then you won’t care if you lose them.

If you want to forgo the perfume route, I suggest a clinical-strength deodorant with a nice scent (they do exist), and it’s another product that can be double duty. I know this isn’t the sexiest suggestion, but it’s practical and you won’t be on the receiving end of multiple side-eyes as you stink up the jam-packed tour bus.

Finally, there’sunscreen. It’s a must and irreplaceable. Slather or spray it on, but just make sure you use it. You don’t want to waste any time on your getaway squeezing aloe on your sad, red shoulders.

They have sweat-proof, natural and tan-developing formulas, so you’ll be sure to find the one that fits your needs. And let’s be honest: The smell of Coppertone screams vacation. Why mess with nostalgia like that?

As we make our way to our summer destinations, we can pack smart not the entire contents of ourvanity and still feel beautiful. But, the most important thing to remember about beauty tips when you travel is to not get bogged down worrying about what you look like as you explore new and exciting places. Take it in, and make the memories.

Who cares if you have a blemish? That’s why Instagram created filters, anyway.
